Block caving-a short presentation

By Gideon Gipmai Yowa

Block caving method is an underground mining method under the category of caving methods. Block caving is becoming popular in massive ore bodies that are highly fractured and sheared with RQD less than 50%. Block caving production output is higher than any other underground mining methods and thus is preferred on very low grade orebodies where the operational cost is lower due to the very high ore tonnages. There are three (3)  method variations namely the block caving, mass caving and panel caving and three (3) draw or extraction systems which are the slusher, gravity, and loader systems. The link below contains a short presentation on the method and other associated technical aspects.
